Entries from June 2007
Just a quick note to any readers of this site… You may want to take me off your feeds/frequently checked links/etc. I’m going dark. As easy as wordpress makes it to publish a blog I still don’t have enough time/desire to update frequently enough to be of use (to me anyway). Best of luck to all trying gain fitness, lose weight, etc.
I may return in a few months, and I may not. If I feel the compulsion I’ll be back, I’m not deleting anything so feel free to check back… but don’t wait breathlessly for the next entry (not that I believe that was a danger any way :) )
Thanks for reading,
Travis

Just when I’m thinking I won’t get through the work week… tomorrow is Friday and I’m taking a half day!
Lifting went well on Wednesday. I’ve not been anywhere near as sore so I’m adjusting to my new lifts pretty well.
I’m pretty proud of my run this morning. I was tired, I got up anyway. I went downstairs and noticed my foot was hurting, but thought I should run anyway. I got dressed and went outside. It. Was. Raining. I walked back in the house pretty disgusted and sure I wouldn’t run. I went anyway! I put on a baseball cap and went out to do 5 x 1/4 mile repeats. They went well, and I was really glad I persevered.
I’m going to post times but please note I’ve not measured the new, paved “track” near my house so it may not be exactly a 1/4 mile.
1st lap: 1:14.5
2nd lap: 1:11.8
3rd lap: 1:11.7
4th lap: 1:11.9
5th lap: 1:11.5
I did a mile warm up and another mile cool-down.

This is somewhat of a catch up post for me – the good news is that although I’ve been a little lax with posting I’ve done well staying active.
Saturday I slept in and therefore didn’t run long as I’d planned – I ran 3 miles and then ran 8.5 miles on Sunday (in about 20 minutes). I changed my lifting routine Monday and will be posting that schedule in the next couple days… the different lifts went well although I must say that I was a bit sore today. This morning I ran an easy 4 miles. A 1/4 mile paved trail has been finished near my house recently so Thursday I’ll be doing speed work on it. Tomorrow is a lifting day – I’m hoping I’ll be less sore on Thursday than I am today!
Also before I end this post I have to say that its kind of liberating to not step on a scale every day. I’m sticking with my goal of not weighing in until July.

This morning I chose sleep over lifting. If I have time I may lift this evening, but I make no promises. Long run tomorrow, I’m thinking a good 80 minute run.
My weight is holding steady at 165.5 (unfortunately). I think I’m going to give the scale the old heave-ho for a few weeks. So don’t look for an update on weight until July 6th.

I was so tired when I got up this morning I laid on the basement (concrete) floor for 10 minutes or so and really considered sleeping there for a while. I managed to get up and go out and had a pretty good run. Just 35 minutes but I fit in some speed work (four 1.5 minute pickups during my run). I felt much better coming back than I did when I left.
Next week I’ll be swapping out my lifting schedule (I do this every 8 weeks – to try to maximize gains – although it seems I’m just kind of hovering in the same place) and I hope to set a few of the interim goals I mentioned earlier.
Something I’ve not mentioned before is that I’m trying to do some things physically I’ve never done before… I’m far more athletic now (at 33) than I’ve been in my life. So on Tuesday at the tender age of 33 I managed to perform my first cartwheel! I’ve tried – long ago – but was never in condition to do such things. I’m also trying to master a hand-stand. I can hand stand for a couple seconds but not too long. So, I’m working on my balance – I’m hoping to work up to walking on my hands and then to hand-stand pushups.

My run Saturday went well, although it wasn’t the long run it was supposed to be… I had to get back home so it was just a 3.5 miler. Lifting on Monday went pretty well although I’m pretty tired – so I am dragging a bit. I did a good 5o minute run today – not sure of the distance but I actually felt a bit of a “runner’s high” for the first time in a while.
I’m going to have to set some interim goals – I’m thinking weekly weight loss goals and a 5K race goal for the 4th of July race I’m going to run…

I’m back (again)! I’ve been a bit lethargic since my 10 miler in April. I’ve still been running, and lifting occasionally as well — but not as regularly as I should. Partly due to post race blues, work (i.e. financial) stress, and upcoming arrival of baby #2 at the end of July.
My goals are still the same: Weight 150 – 155, 20 minute 5K , etc. (see my goals) I’m just re-dedicating myself to achieving them.
The good news is I haven’t let myself go too much over the past couple months… fitness is still pretty good although I have put on a few pounds (weighed in at 165.5 this morning).
I lifted this morning and it went well, and I’m planning a long run tomorrow morning – I’ll update frequently to let everyone know how I’m doing.
Thanks!
